Metal Laminates

Share: FacebookTwitterStumble

DEKODUR – Metal Laninates from Germany specialist for decorative laminates. DEKODUR always comes to mind when one is thinking about decorative laminated panels because the traditional company is well-known for its various designs of prestigious laminated panels. DEKODUR has consistently upheld its vision of offering surprising innovations to customers continually by means of applying its curiosity, innovative power and orientation to service. DEKODUR began to produce laminated panels made from melamine resin first of all and then it became the first manufacturer to produce laminates with real metal surfaces when the 1960s began; which was a milestone in the laminated panel's history. Panels that were created and painted by international artists followed later on and the product was transformed from a building material into a versatile eye-catcher.

New ideas are setting new standards nowadays: translucent laminated panels as well as surfaces covered with real gold leaf, fig tree bark or glass are opening up a wide spectrum of uses. Claddings for walls or ceilings, doors or frames, furniture, company nameplates, counters and displays as well as fitting out shops, trade-fair stands, ships and railway carriages are just a few examples,

Laminates

Laminates

The name dekorial – starline stands for a high pressure laminate with a genuine aluminium surface. This surface is applied to a core of phenolic resin using high pressure. A highly resistant aluminium surface is obtained by electrical oxidisation for mirror quality or by use of laquer. As the anodized aluminium is an integral part of the surface layer it gives the product a permanent protection against “external”
influences.
A special heat-curing laquer on the basis of an Epoxide resin or a PU laquer is also used in many cases as a protection for the metal surface. The aluminium layer can be delivered if required with a smooth, brushed or embossed surface. The typical metallic character is obtained by pressing in the original colours. A transparent colouration combined with a surface structure gives further openings for
a decorative effect. A slight unevenness in the surface (with structures) and slight variations in shine of
the aluminium surface laminates are one of the features of this product. The slight indentations are at the present stand of the technique and are unavoidable and normal. Slight colour variations occur during the production process and are not detrimental to the overall appearance.
Pure aluminium products are often pressed with a smooth surface. Other surface structures such as Honeycomb (WAF), Barleycorn (GEK) or Pinpoint (PNT) are available. For special effects a groove along or across the board with different embossing (603 – 610) on either side bring out the metallic character.
A 210 Pure aluminium smooth and anodized (Natural) Mirrorquality
A 211 Pure aluminium smooth and anodized (Gold) Mirrorquality
A 216 Pure aluminium smooth and anodized (Gunmetal) Mirrorquality
A 246 Pure aluminium smooth, matt, anodized (Natural)
The optimal mirror-effect is only achieved by using a smooth-metal surface. By
using the grooved structure (see dekovario Prospectus) combined with the
mirror-quality further variations are possible.

Dekorial-Dekostyle Metal Laminate

Dekorial-Dekostyle Metal Laminate

Aluminum punched

All metal surfaces are available in four different punching patterns and can be combined with the
decors featured in our product lines dekoplus dekolor, dekonova and with the mirror finishe from dekorial starline.

The name dekorial dekostyle metal stands for a high pressure laminate with a pure aluminium surface, which has holes and is laquered. This surface is underlaid with a decorative sheet from the dekoplus – dekonova / dekolor collection. The plain or printed film gives a decorative effect enhanced by the size and shape of the hole. A combination of printed wood reproductions or a graphic printed motive offers an
additional advantage for a decorative application.
If a second aluminium foil with different colours or gloss, is used as a backing, placed
one above the other, the result is a very decorative metal surface with optical depth.
These decorative combinations of a metal film with holes with an underlay are then
applied to phenolic resin, using high pressure.
A special baked enamel on epoxy-resin base or a PU coating on the perforated metal foil is a measure for the protection of the metal surface.
The aluminium layer in dekostyle is generally in the form of a brushed metal surface.
The perforated aluminum layer with dekostyle metal is preferably available in
brushed metal surface.
In the variant dekorial dekostyle wood are real metal laminated plastic plates (HPL)
covered with wood reproductions of different woods, provided with three different
perforation types. The high-quality character of various woods, combined with
mirror-bright metal, develops a unique visual impression. The surfaces of the
different wood types resemble in their mechanical properties those of melamine HPL.
The slight unevenness in the surface in some of the aluminium surfaces laminates is
one of the features of dekostyle. The slight indentations are at the present stand of
the technique and are unavoidable and normal. Slight colour variations occur during
the production and are not detrimental to the overall appearance.

Dekorial-Inox

Dekorial-Inox

Real stainless steel HPL

Wherever quality and extraordinary interior
design are highly valued, high-grade
steel offers the ideal surface material.

The names dekorial - inox and stratos stand for high pressure laminates (HPL) with a
foil of stainless steel, quality X 5 CrNi 18 10. This German number indicates the
formulation, as well as the mechanical and physical properties of the steel foil. The
metal foil of 0,05 mm thickness is applied to a core of phenolic resin using high
pressure.
The stainless steel surfaces of the inox and stratos products are unaffected by
common household agents and resistant to the following chemical solutions: 10%
nitric acid, 10% phosphoric acid, 10% sulphuric acid, 10% sodium hydroxide, 10%
potassium hydroxide, 10% ammonia and 5% washing soda. Further, alcohol and
other solvents such as petrol, acetone etc. have no effect on the stainless steel
surface.
Contact of the stainless steel surface with foodstuffs in daily use presents no
problems.
The stainless steel product is ideal for highly structured surfaces such as i.e. CRI,
GEK, PNT, and WAF. But also less structured surfaces obtained by a fine sanding of
the surface such as MIC, RON, ROS, WEL, andWES are possible.
The stratos-products have a fine elegant structure which is achieved by a special
treatment of the stainless steel surface.
Slight variations of shine, colour and evenness in the surface of our stainless steel
products, coming from raw stainless steel material and processing are unavoidable
and normal. These variations are not diametrical to the overall appearance.
Backing sheets for inox and stratos:
We recommend 2nd choice stainless steel HPL’s as an inexpensive backing sheet,
alternatively:
1. S 299 GLA
2. A 209 Pure aluminium smooth – lacquered HPL (Natural
aluminium colour)
This aluminium-quality in a smooth surface and also in the hammered version can be
recommended as an inexpensive backing sheet.
Dimensions and Quality
All inox and stratos sheets are delivered in the dimensions 2440 mm x 1220 mm.
The standard sheet contains 2 foils of stainless steel of width 610 mm. These
are butt-joined. The joints are barely visible, and should be removed by cutting
along the butt-joints.
The effective width in the case of waffel structure is only 1200 mm. Here the
single steel sheets have a width of 600 mm.
The tolerances for the dimensions along and across the sheets as required in
EN 438 are:
- 0 mm + 10 mm
The inox/stratos sheets can be produced in thickness from 0.8 mm to 3.0 mm.
The standard thickness 0.8 mm, giving a density of 1.4 kg/m².
The limits for variations in thickness are governed by EN DIN 438..

complex workmanship in these decors, one easily
creates fascinating impressions for today´s high-end
interior design.

Under the name dekorial stratos is to be understood real aluminum laminated
plastic boards (HPL) in different surface treatment and colors. This metal layer is
applied on a phenolic resin core with high pressure.
All implementations are coated with a UV-paint on acrylic base. The paint has an
abrasive hardness according to DIN EN 438 of
> 1.5 N.
The painted surface is resistant to all usual household cleaning agents, solvents and
alcohol. Small gloss-level differences (in case of the light silk gloss) are conditional
through variations in the surface roughness of the aluminium foil.
Smaller impressed dents are unavoidable and normal, in accordance with the
present state of the art. The same applies for the color of the products listed here.
This can vary minimally manufacture-related, however, the general impression is not
disturbed by that as a rule.
This real metal surface is suitable for individual interior design.

Dekolux-Starlux Decorative Laminate

Illuminated HPL

The four metal surfaces are available in four different punching patterns and can be combined
with each of the dekolux toplux colors.

The name dekolux stands for a decorative high pressure laminate with a translucent core. An unfilled transparent paper (overlay), impregnated with a melamine resin, is used for the core. The surface layer, this is the decorative layer in dekolux, is an overlay sheet with a printed pattern (Melalux) or metal foil with holes (Starlux).
Further, non-woven material with an open structure can be pressed in dekolux
(Toplux).
The printed patterns in the available products have been taken mainly from the product ranges dekostyle and dekotrend. For this reason products in the dekolux range can be readily combined with products from the dekostyle and dekotrend ranges to obtain a highly decorative effect.
The colours of the collection toplux are enhanced by the structures of the fabric and lie within an acceptable tolerance. However, a slight colourintensity- feeling is normal and should be expected.
Backing sheets for dekolux:
Dekolux is used in practice without a substrate and therefore no backing sheet is
required.
Dimensions and Quality
All dekolux sheets are delivered in the dimensions 2440 mm x 1220 mm.
The tolerances for the dimensions along and across the sheets as required by
EN 438 are:
- 0 mm and + 10 mm
The standard thickness of dekolux is 1.5 mm giving a density of 2.5 kg/m².
If thicker sheets of dekolux are required, direct contact with Dekodur® is advisable.
Dekolux with a holed aluminium decorative sheet is pressed with a smooth surface
while printed patterns and netting structures are available in high gloss or in matt.
The limits for the variations in thickness are governed by EN 438.
Nominal thickness Maximum tolerances
1.0– 2.0 mm ± 0.15 mm
> 2.0 – 2.5 mm ± 0.18 mm
A protective surface foil is absolutely necessary. This foil must be removed after 6
months at the latest, as by later removal the aluminium surface could be damaged.
Behaviour in case of fire – the dekolux laminate with an aluminium decorative sheet
in standard quality is classified as B1 – B2 when tested according to DIN 4102.
The dekolux sheets with printed patterns and netting structures in standard quality
are classified as B2 when tested according to DIN 4102.
Application and Processing
Dekolux laminates are intended for use in applicatinos where the material can be
illuminated from behind. The translucent effect together with the colour tones function
as an eyecatcher in the object. Smaller pieces of dekolux are best secured in a metal
framework or grooved together.
For use in larger surfaces it is recommended that dekolux laminates, specially with
holed aluminium sheets, should be mounted with a slightly convex structure. The
max. height of crowning, when using sheets with a thickness of 1,5 mm, should be
approx. 1/3 of the actual width of the sheet. In case of a width less than 600 mm the
max. height of crowning must be reduced. In this way any slight shrinkage in the
sheet can be absorbed. In this curvature over the complete width, together with
indirect illumination, the effect of the pattern is greatly enhanced.
Smaller cuts of dekolux should be gently strained into a frame or affixed into a grove.
Hereby the measurements of the cuts need to be 1-2 mm smaller than the
measurement from grove-base to grove-base.
The Dekolux laminate is intended for use in vertical surfaces in interior applications.
A typical application is in indirectly illuminated wall cladding. Further, ceiling elements
illuminated from behind are ideal applications.

The HGL high-gloss surfaces are suitable for marking with a board marker.
We recommend board markers from edding (360 and 363). Markings made with
suitable board markers can be wiped off in dry condition.
The MAT matte surfaces are suitable for marking with chalk and can also be used as
a projection surface. We recommend ILLUMIGRAPH liquid chalk from ZIG in this
case. However, the open-pore surface cannot always be wiped completely clean in
dry condition.
Before the first use, after peeling off the protective foil both surfaces must be cleaned
